* FINAL VERSION - Concurred
Resolution:D032
Title:Non-Discrimination in Lay Employment
Topic:Discrimination
Committee:10 - Social and Urban Affairs
House of Initial Action:Bishops
Proposer:Dr. Louie Crew

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the 76th General Convention commit The Episcopal Church not to discriminate in employment of lay employees based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

EXPLANATION

The Church is generally exempt from federal employment discrimination laws, and those of most states and localities, but except for discrimination based on religion which may be appropriate for some positions, The Episcopal Church supports the principles of non-discrimination. It should take credit for that position public. Many but not all of the above categories are set forth in resolutions of previous General Conventions but this would put them all in one convenient location.
